Following Apple's release of iOS 18.2, which enables users to share AirTag locations, United Airlines and Air Canada have integrated the technology to help passengers track lost luggage.
With the new Share Item Location feature, passengers can share their AirTag location with the airline through a link generated in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. United has already added the service to its app. The airline can then use the live-tracking link to locate delayed or lost bags more quickly.
Sharing is automatically disabled once the luggage is returned or after seven days. The process is anonymous, ensuring neither Apple nor the accessory manufacturers can view location or item information.
Apple is collaborating with 16 other airlines to implement this integration, with more airlines expected to be added over time. These include Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Air France and KLM, Qantas Airways, and Delta Air Lines.
